PROJECT REVEAL: GLOBAL TRANSITIONAL BEDROOM

We love this unique Japanese-Spa Inspired design!

Hello Friends! We’re excited to show you the process of this Global Transitional Master Bedroom transformation, which is part of our 3-room Global Transitional project!

We got involved with this custom-build project before the walls were even up, so it gave us a unique opportunity to design some custom built-in features.

Keep on reading until the end for the before and after transformation!

Service: Full Service Design

Client Profile

This military family lived in Asia for a while and brought back many influences with them that they wanted to incorporate into their forever home.

They had a vision for an “Onsen” (Japanese spa) inspired master bathroom and wanted to carry the look and feel into their master.  They wanted the room to feel calm, earthy, unpretentious, and most of all homey.

Design Process

The first step for our Full Service Design process is a “Deep Dive” meeting. This is where we present a few inspirational ideas to our clients based on the online questionnaire they filled out.

We also gave some sample inspiration photos to dive a little deeper into what we envision for the space.

Inspiration Board

Given the vision, we wanted the space to feel organic and serene.  With the inspiration, we were thinking about natural elements like wood and greenery, calming colors like grays, and pops of blues to signify the water.  To ground the space, we considered matte black metal accents.

Space Plan & Drawings

The first stage of the design development is to create the floor plan so we can determine the best layout for the space.  In this case, we also designed a few options behind the bed wall including a  unique wood feature, wallpaper, and paint.

DESIGN CONCEPT

Concept One

For the first concept, we had the idea to add a wood feature wall to add an organic texture reflecting the Japanese-spa inspired design with blues to represent water and grays to represent stones. The furniture was transitional since the couple also liked that design style.

Concept Two:

In this second concept we went for a stylish gray textured wallpaper behind the bed, with a greige paint to complement.

The furniture we decided on was to be a little more rustic with wood tones and a fun colorful vintage-style rug.

The Final Design

Our clients chose concept one! They loved the wood feature behind the bed, a soft gray upholstered bed frame and headboard, and the pops of blue tones. They also asked for more plants and greenery.

Project Management

After the design was approved, we started working on product orders as well as working with our contractors to do the painting, woodworker, electrical, and handyman tasks throughout the space.

While this transformation looks simple, many steps went into the project management of this space.  Working with our team can help ensure you have a smooth process when it comes to execution!

Pro Tip:

We used Stikwood panels for the wall behind the bed.  Keep in mind that these need to acclimate for about 3 days in the space (good to verify with the vendor) before installation.  Also, boards are thin, and many cuts are needed so we would recommend working with a professional to install this product.

Before & After

Before

From a simple room with almost bare walls and a boring façade, we want to make sure that we incorporate what our client wants. It was a challenging task but it was a fun and exciting process!

After

Voila! What a surprising transformation! A cozy, modern, and comfortable Japanese-spa-inspired room that the client will enjoy for a long time!
