Project Reveal: Modern Global Kitchen and Dining Transformation

Hello Everyone! Today we’re sharing one of the most talked about projects from our website portfolio, this modern global kitchen and dining room transformation for a family who loves to entertain!  Make sure to scroll to the end to see the Before and After pictures!

Client Profile

Busy family of four with a beautiful home in Arlington, VA who love entertaining often with friends and family and have many souvenirs from their travels.  The kitchen had strong bones from a previous renovation but looked outdated and the dining area needed better function.

Design Process

Inspiration Board

We wanted the space to feel warm, inviting, and fresh with a global influence. For the cabinets, we envisioned a vibrant blue paint color to wake up the space, paired with white upper cabinets. For the dining area, the main idea was to create a built-in seating area near the wall that would give them better flow for indoor-outdoor entertaining as well as storage for wine, glasses and even their dog food.

Floor Plan

We started by re-imagining the floor plan, first we did a mock up of the space plan so that the homeowners could start to envision the space with the new footprint in the dining space and the new paint colors in the kitchen.

Once the floor plan was approved, we created detailed 3D renders and design concepts.

Design Development and 3D Renders

We created the Design Concepts including all products for the dining space and kitchen and also finalized the paint colors for the kitchen cabinets and the floor stain.  To work with the beautiful blue paint in the kitchen, we incorporated blue, navy, gray, and white cushions on the bench, as well as a black and white dining set and a new chandelier. Then we created 3D renders so the homeowners could easily envision the space.

Contractor Implementation

After the approval of the design, we recommended the painters for the kitchen cabinet refresh.  The process of painting the cabinets was quite detailed and took about a week, with a follow-up for touch-ups.  Once the cabinets were painted, a new backsplash was added and new cabinet pulls as well as new lighting.

In the dining space, the woodworker created the beautiful built-in cabinet with wine racks as well as the large built-in banquette with storage.  The floor was stained in the front room of the home and matched with a strong luxury vinyl tile floor in the kitchen and dining area.

Final Styling

Once the contractors were done and products had arrived, we went back to the home to style the space beautifully using the homeowners own souvenirs from their travels. One of our favorite parts was using beautiful wall plates on the wall to highlight the vaulted ceiling!
