Project Reveal: Sophisticated Glam Solarium

Hi everyone! I’m excited to share with you the process of this Sophisticated, Glam Solarium project. We took an outdated sunroom with floor to ceiling windows and turned it into a modern art deco-inspired space that oozes sophistication. A place where the homeowners sip on their whiskey while looking at the outdoor scenery. Keep on reading until the end for the big reveal!

Client Profile

Service: Full Service Design

About the Project:

Multi-room project for busy entrepreneurs with two college-age kids and sweet pets.  They love to entertain and wanted to update their spaces to better reflect their personalities.

Design Process

Getting Started

For the inspiration, the client envisioned a black and white, elegant space. We took it from there and curated a mood board! We were inspired by black and white wedding events, grand brass light fixtures and sophisticated touches. The next step was to begin putting together a floor plan.

Space Plan

When envisioning the layout for this space, we wanted to leave the room pretty open as we knew it was used often for events.  We added a feature wall across the windows with a bar area centered, as well as a seating area with a curved sofa to highlight the architecture of the room.

Design Concepts

After the initial space plan is created, we move forward with creating the two design concepts. By creating two design concepts, clients can compare and contrast and choose their favorite design scheme.  We opted to do black walls with white wainscotting and add an elegant black wallpaper on one of the walls to make it feel more luxurious.

For the first concept,

we added gold and plum tones to the black and white scheme on the walls. With the light fixture, we added an art-decor inspired chandelier, and brass shelves provided great storage for bottles.  A luxurious champagne fabric for the custom curtains was the perfect component to the design.

For the second concept,

we kept the same overall feel with a few subtle changes. This time around we introduced a lovely velvet navy blue love seat as the pop of color. We changed the chandelier to something a bit more fun and extravagant as well as included a modern abstract art piece with color to help shine in the room.

Final Design

The client loved some elements from each concept, so we combined a few things, added a new champagne-colored sofa and new artwork, and we had our final design!

Working with Contractors

For our Full Service Design projects, we have trusted relationships with contractors, whom we partner with to execute the projects. For this project, we partnered with a team that did everything from painting, woodwork, and wallpaper installation! First, we share the design vision with the contractor, get a quote, and once approved, we project manage the execution alongside their team.

In-person Installation

The client and the CID team met for the installation along with our handyman. Our receiver brought all the bigger items in the space already assembled. They also helped arrange the furniture pieces to their designated spot, so it made it much easier to work with. On installation day, we bring all accessories for the space including pillows, vases, decorative items, and more to put the finishing touches on the space.
