Keep on reading until the end for the big reveal!

Overview

Service: Full Service Design

We started this project with the dining room because the homeowners had a clear vision for the space from the very beginning.

They had a beautiful hand-carved stone art piece from India that they wanted to become the focal point. They even suggested wallpaper on the ceiling… music to our ears. 😉

Quote from Intake Questionnaire:

“We’ve been holding off on hosting too many events because the house feels disorganized and needs a face lift.  We’d love to have more playdates and casual get-togethers with friends and their kids.“

Design Process

The first step for our Full Service Design process after the Project Kick Off is the “Conceptual Design” meeting, where we present a few inspirational ideas in the form of a mood board to our clients based on the online questionnaire they filled out and/or inspiration photos and dive a little deeper into what we envision for the space.  In this case, the clients had shared some beautiful inspirations, so we used those photos as a jumping off point.

Space Plan

During the Conceptual Design meeting, we also shared the initial proposed Floor Plans.  The clients were amazed because we showed them a completely different layout option than how they had set up the room.  We changed the direction of the dining table to make the room feel bigger and flow better.

Detailed Design

Following the Conceptual Design meeting, we started to develop the Detailed Design.  This was quite a tricky design to put together for a few reasons:

  • We needed to showcase the beautiful art piece from India and have design elements that complemented it beautifully but didn’t compete against it.
  • From a construction standpoint, the art piece needed to be wired for backlighting and we had to add blocking to the wall to support it. I trust my trade partners but also wanted to make sure we specify this in the documentation.
  • We added a beautiful wallpaper on the ceiling and deep blue walls for contrast.
  • Then came the challenge of picking the furniture and decor and after a lot of options I explored, I landed on these pieces to contrast and complement nicely against the new elements in the space.

3D Drawings & Elevations

The result is a dining room that makes a statement the moment you walk through the front door. More importantly, it’s a space designed for gathering, entertaining, and making new memories together.

Project Management

After the design was approved, we started working on furniture orders as well as collaborating with our contractor partners to bring to life the paint, woodworking and wallpaper installation.
